Hammerwatch Discussion / Re: Boss Level 3 - Death by Telefrag

For me savefiles are kept in C:\GOG Games\Hammerwatch\saves so you should easily find yours if you can find the folder you installed Hammerwatch in... alternatively make your pc search for files that end in .hws (i.e. search *.hws ).

You could upload your save file and have someone kill the boss for you. I doubt anyone just randomly kept a savefile right after that boss.

Nice to see I was not the only one having difficulties with that boss^^'

Hammerwatch Discussion / Re: Ideas for the Rogue

I'm trying to envision a different play style that'd reward dipping into large groups of enemies to kill multi projectile launchers or pits quickly. Right now the other classes really reward clearing the way safely, and I always imagine backstabs as high risk high reward endeavors.
Actually that is kind of the way I play with the warlock. Run into a lot of enemies (kill a spawning pit, if there is time, else drag them back), run around them for a while until they form a ball instead of a line, and kill them all with lightning bolts (often just one or two, depending on the level). I cant imagine how one would play warlocks differently.. that poison knife didnt seem very useful at all against anything but very small groups of enemies.

That is also the reason why I enjoyed warlock the most so far. Staying back and slowly killing things just isnt as fun.

Technical Support / Re: Can't get past the start screen [Windows 8]

edit:
I noticed something in the FAQ ( http://hammerwatch.com/forum/index.php?topic=1688.0 )
You could turning on hardware acceleration before reading on.

original:

I am kind of unfit to respond, because I bought the game from GoG instead of Steam. In my version that config.xml is right in the directory, the game installed to.. (...\GOG Games\Hammerwatch\config.xml) but I suppose you looked there already..

But: since nobody else responded here yet, I have a suggestion:

It is a (very) wild guess, but maybe the game only creates the config.xml file after you input your name. Sooo.. you could try copying the one I attached to this post into your game folder. I guess (!) it cant hurt, since you can just erase it again, if it doesnt work, so it should be worth a try at least. As you can probably see when you open it, the config says that it should load in 800x600 windowed mode (to determine if the file is even read by the game) and has all graphics options turned down / switched off (to see if any graphics options cause the game to die upon entering the title screen)

I am not that optimistic about this actually working, but.. as I said, worth a try?^^

Hammerwatch Discussion / Re: Questions regarding similarities to Gauntlet
« on: December 11, 2013, 08:21:33 PM »
Uhh... Mr Hipshot? I think he did not ask for things to be easy?

Now, I did not play Gauntlet, but: Actually, you CAN make life tick down in Hammerwatch. When you start a new game and click "custom", there are several options (called "challanges" in that menu) to switch on. The one you asked for would be "Reverse hp regen". Although I have no idea if it is actually possible to win then. For me it is difficult enough to just play it in hard mode.. though that may be, because I did not play that much yet (only played one class up to now, but relatively close to the end of the campaign, I believe).

Anyways, I honestly would not worry about the game being too easy.

edit: If you do end up buying the game: make sure to have a look at the advanced graphics options, I found them pretty neat^^)

Bug Reports / Spike traps and necromants
« on: December 11, 2013, 06:04:16 PM »
Hey,

I noticed two bugs with the traps that shoot spikes on floor 12.

I tried to lure a few of those skeleton summoning dudes into a spike shooting trap. They all stood in line, basically waiting to be shot down, but after the first two died, the trap stopped shooting. I suppose thats not what it is supposed to do, right? After all, I had an enemy stay very close to line that triggers the trap once, and the trap kept shooting then.

Also, sometimes they just randomly keep shooting when the only things in its line are golden beetles behind a bronze door. It only stops after I killed those beetles.

So.. in total: sometimes the trap stops firing when it should not, and sometimes it does not when it should.

edit: doh.. I actually wrote my real name xD

Hammerwatch Discussion / [spoiler] The third boss: random?
« on: December 09, 2013, 08:09:28 PM »
Hey,

soo.. I only recently started playing this game. Up to now it has been pretty fun, but the Lich is.. annoying. Those black bullets keep randomly killing me, because the he teleports right on top of me. When I hear the teleport sound / see the black shadows it is too late most of the time. Is there some pattern to his teleporting or is it just supposed to be like this? (just in case that matters: I'm playing a warlock in hard mode)

best wishes
