How do I make my Player, playable? If I add him in the players folder will he be available?

I am in the process of creating my own players. I have been using the Hammersprite application to export my characters to XML, but currently it only exports them as enemies. Is there any other way to create custom players? I'm going to try to just export them as an enemy then try to change the XML file to be the same format as the player's XML, but i was wondering if anyone knew of an easier way.
