Hammerwatch Discussion / Re: Soundtrack

How come the soundtrack doesn't come with the steam version?

I'm sad about that one too.

I don't know if anyone cares about the technical details, but the reason for this is that the SteamApps folder in some situations is used with captial S and A and sometimes not, and the windows file system is not case sensitive, but some of my code was. This will be fixed in the next patch.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Myran

Do you have a creative sound card? It seems like creative has some issues with their OpenAL implementation for some of their sound cards, try downloading this dll: http://hammerwatch.com/OpenAL32.dll and putting it in your hammerwatch folder.

I do (Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD), and that fixed it, thank you! As a test, I moved OpenAL32.dll out of the folder again and the game stopped working, so that definitely seems to be the problem.

Sweet! Glad you got it running!

Bug Reports / Re: [MAC] Controller (PS3) does not work
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:32:02 PM »
You can try using programs to emulator the controller as an xbox controller and see if that helps. Most games have no issues seeing up xbox controllers. You might have issues if you try and use XInput. I'm totally not a mac person.

Yep, the editor seems to work.

I was looking into some .NET Framework 4.0 issues and came across this a few times.

Code: [Select]
<configuration>
  <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
    <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
  </startup>
</configuration>

Try added that to the above <Options> of the config file and see what it does?

Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
    <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
  </startup>
</configuration>
<Options>

Are you able to open the editor?

Technical Support / Re: Loading time

What might be helpful, is there be an option in the info.xml that allows a browser direct to a dropbox/file hosted server as an option for the map creator instead of p2p for it. This would allow them open the download from a browser instead?

Direct file hosting would be something I'd use and since I'm always hosting it would allow others to load the game fast. ultimately i'd like to see dedicated server with people able to pick maps on the server in a lobby hosting on the dedicated server before starting a match. This would make it so people could come and go even tho that is not idea sometimes.

Sorry, I tried it into my root C: and it still didn't work, but when I moved it to the Program Files folder like suggested in a different thread it worked - so it's loading now thanks!

Seems to be the same issue i had with it trying to look for the level somewhere else

My friend just gifted me the game and it won't start at all.
When I start it, it just says the program stopped working. I've tried using various compatibility modes or running it as an admin, no luck.
I also read various posts about messing with config.xml, so I tried that, but the file doesn't even seem to exist. I created it manually, but that didn't help. I took a look inside Event Viewer and found errors logged from .NET

Sounds like the required components didn't install correctly when running the game for the first time.

Re-install these two things: Steam\SteamApps\common\Hammerwatch\_CommonRedist\DotNet\4.0\dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe and Steam\SteamApps\common\Hammerwatch\_CommonRedist\OpenAL\2.0.7.0\oalinst.exe

and if you want to be safe you can also do Steam\SteamApps\common\Hammerwatch\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\vcredist_xxx.exe

I'm assuring you have it on steam since someone gifted it to you

Here are the files packed with steam if you don't have it

This is terrible :( I can't work on my assets without being able to test run :(

I've tried uninstalling from steam, ran ccleaner for registery and extra after that, and installed a fresh hammerwatch via steam.

Basically what myran said is just have your assets and xml files on the desktop and not in the steam folders and this issue should be fixed.

try to back down your NV drivers because the latest isn't always best and compatible mode is never a good idea unless you have too.

Did you try to install the commonredist that come with the game? It has three of them.
1. Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package
2. OpenAL 2.0.7.0
3. Microsoft .NET Framework 4

Technical Support / Re: Hammerwatch Port Fowarding
« on: August 31, 2013, 05:05:57 PM »
For those that don't know how to portforward here is some helpful guides

Pick your brand of router
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Picked the model number of your router and then pick any game and it will show you how to open ports. Remember to open the port FelixJames suggested instead on the one on the site.

Seems to only happen if I run the game in the editor because if I compile the level it works fine.

Hammerwatch Discussion / Re: This forums captcha is terrible

a lot of these features are down to myran, unfortunately he has been far to busy bug-patching hammerwatch recently to look at the website to much.

From the look of it he is just using the default template with no other modifications. I'd be happy to just edit the default files and give them to you so you guys can just upload them. It's only 2 source files and the rest is just template modifications. Anyways you know of how to extract the sprites because I'd like to use them in the template I'd be making.

Thank you for taking the time and looking into this issue

Why are you not using recaptcha? The internal picture captcha is easily broken and the word captcha if it doesn't change regularly then bots are just custom changed so it gets past them. Do you not have a web admin? Do you guys need help in that department? I love hammerwatch but it hurts me to see nothing in the community or wiki.

Anyways if you are not able to use recaptcha then some suggested word captcha

1. What is the fifth letter in hammerwatch?
2. What is two plus one? (never want to do numerals)
3. How many finger and toes does a human have? (including thumbs)

These are things anyone would know.

Plugin: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1044

I might even build you guys a new template because this one is so plain!
